About the Artist

The Artist at work
Douglas Tettman

I have been sketching and carving for a number of years devoid of formal guidance in the arts. When I discovered the beauty in this medium and experienced the joy others felt when receiving one of my pieces I dedicated myself to keeping alive the age old art of Glass Etching. This versatile and timeless art form continues to be admired and treasured by many like you, and will do so for many years to come.

I began etching glass as a hobby in early 2005 and immediately took to it. This was the beginning of SK-ETCH-INK Custom Handmade Glass Etching. I started with small pieces of glass and simple etchings, and in a short period had graduated into creating works of amazing variety and detail. My creations can be found in Paris, Germany, Australia, Hong Kong all across Canada and in some parts of the U.S

Virtually all aspects of my creations are done by hand from start to finish. I do not use lasers, sand, stencils or chemicals in the formation of the etching(s). The technique is being completed by hand using a variable speed drill with diamond tip bits.

In this way there are never two identical pieces giving you something that is uniquely yours..

All of the supplies I use are salvage materials, things that would otherwise have been put into a landfill somewhere. It is possible that you might find a minor flaw in the piece this serves to remind me, that even though some things are not perfect they can still be seen as a object of beauty.

I am a devoted husband and father and have strong roots within the Point Grey community where I reside. I do my best to contribute and have donated several of my pieces to organizations that work with high risk youth, drug and alcohol treatment facilities, and other community groups that continue to help change peoples lives
